In this Issue: Pantheism: A Religious Vision for Humanists by Devin Carrol, On a Personal Method of Experiencing Nature by Derham Guiliani, Pantheist Viewpoints
Excerpt:
Many Humanists are uncomfortable using religious vocabulary such as "God" or "divine" to denote ideas that have nothing to do with miracles or the supernatural. Their worry is that these words will be misunderstood and encourage ideas that are unscientific and therefore anathema to naturalistic humanism. However, if we automatically reject any philosophies that use religious terminology, we will unnecessarily lose communion with people who are in fundamental agreement with our own humanism. Consider Albert Einstein, who said that he believed in Spinoza’s God. Should we reject Einstein as a humanist because of that?

In this Issue: The Differences between Pantheism and Atheism by Terry L. Moses, Connecting with Universal Energy by Michael Murphy, What Pantheism Means to Me by Members of the Society, Pantheist Viewpoints.
Excerpts: The differences between Pantheism and Atheism are few with one very important element. Pantheism holds reverence for the Natural world, where Atheism does not. Pantheism contends that the Cosmos - All That Exists - deserves our reverence, our respect, our "awe". Pantheists know that it is not required of them by the Existence to revere It, but it is their desire to show veneration to that from which they came.
Pantheism is about connecting directly with the universal energy, with a minimum of bureaucracy or metaphorical stories. It is about finding the energy especially as it is expressed in nature...
Pantheist Vision - September 2010 - Derham Giuliani: In Memorium By Universal Pantheist Society (PDF)
Special issue
In This Issue: In Memorium: Derham Giuliani (1931-2010) by Harold Wood; What Pantheism Means to Me by Derham Giuliani; Letters; Pantheist Viewpoints - Do Pantheists Pray? by Derham Giuliani
On September 2, 2010, the Universal Pantheist Society lost its co-founder Derham Giuliani, who served as our President from about 1977 to the present. A quintessential "desert rat," Derham Giuliani rejected all "indoor philosophy" and spent most of his time in the great outdoors. An accomplished field biologist, Derham’s life was focused on an intense fascination in wild creatures and their behavior. He balanced the scientific study of nature with a profoundly spiritual view of the world. Derham wrote: "The word 'pantheist' is the nearest label I've found so far for my behavior in the world. I find a strong spiritual aspect to the world, inaccessible by strict scientific methods."

In This Issue: Pantheist Sabbath by Harold Wood Varieties of Pantheism by Gary Suttle, My Mayan Path to Pantheism by Christine Oundjian Society News Letters - About Derham Giuliani What Pantheism Means to Me by Members of the Society Pantheist Viewpoints - various authors Excerpt by Gary Suttle: :An extensive entry in The New Encyclopedia Britannica lists seven forms of Pantheism, but actually, there are as many forms of Pantheism as there are Pantheists to express them! Why? In Christianity and numerous other faiths, adherents follow the teachings of charismatic leaders. In Pantheism, everyone is the 'leader' of their own religion, frequently self-discovered from feeling a sense of divinity in Nature (many persons are at first unaware that there is a name for their self-discovery). Adherents of Pantheism spread across the spectrum, some in the center of a category, others at some point in between. (see diagram)

Excerpts:
We often receive letters from persons attracted to the pantheist world view, who note our focus on appreciation of life, the beautiful stream of creation, whether biological or in the larger cosmos. They wonder: “What do pantheists believe in as far as an after life (or lack there of)?” Another asked, “What does pantheism have to say on the big questions of where did we come from, why are we here, and where are we going? How does Pantheism position the human being in the eternal perspective? Does what one does in life have any meaning in the time frame beyond our mortal life span?”
