Hope you're enjoying your Saturday, wherever you are. "I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful -- an endless prospect of magic and wonder." (Ansel Adams) (photograph by S. Wells)
Wishing everyone a Happy Solstice (summer for those in the southern hemisphere)! As we celebrate light and hope this new season (something we can all use especially this year!), we also have Saturn and Jupiter shining together as a 'Christmas Star.' Read all about the "great conjunction" here. It's a great time to be a pantheist and a sky watcher! Stay warm and safe as you celebrate this week.
Winter Solstice is tonight in the northern hemisphere, representing the return of the light, as the days slowly get a little longer, the nights a little shorter (of course, for those living in the southern hemisphere, it is now summer). Solstice comes from the Latin words sol (sun) and sistere (stand still), as it seems for these few days around the solstice that the sun, indeed, seems to stand still in the sky. For more facts and folklore about this special time of year, click on this link from The Old Farmer's Almanac. For many pantheists, it's a time of celebration with lights, bonfires, night walks followed by sipping hot drinks with friends and family. For some, it's also tied in with more traditional Christmas activities. Enjoy your day and this holiday season, however you may celebrate.
